All students applying to Bethany School are required to go through our screening process as part of the admissions process.
For Students entering Kindergarten, the screening process entails assessing a variety of skills such as: identifying basic shapes and letters, demonstrating fine motor skills such as pencil grip, following directions, answering questions of general knowledge, demonstrating large motor skills such as hopping, identifying shapes that are identical or different, ability to recall and repeat sentences, drawing shapes they see, etc.
For Students entering 1st Grade, the readiness screening includes 8 skills areas: Vocabulary, Identifying letters, Visual Discrimination, Phonemic Awareness, Comprehension and interpretation, Mathematical knowledge, Developmental spelling ability, and Handwriting Assessment.
For Students entering 2nd – 8th grades, the Screening involves taking the Stanford 10 Achievement Test sections of Reading Comprehension and Math Procedures for their current grade level .
Screening dates for students applying for Kindergarten are: Saturday, February 11, 2017 and Saturday, February 25, 2017. Start times are available from 9:00 – 11:15 (at 15 minute intervals) and screening lasts approximately 45 – 60 minutes.
Screening for students applying for Grades 1 – 8 is: Saturday, February 25, 2017. Start time is 8:30 am. Testing takes approximately 2 1/2 – 3 hours.
