We have a lot of new and exciting extracurricular opportunities this week. Some of them are offered on the same day so please scroll through all of them before deciding which ones your child would like to attend.
Calling all Percussionists! Mr. Wheeler and Ms. Cooper are offering an after school program called Drum Circle. Students will learn to work together, cooperate, lead and follow, open themselves to new experiences, develop their sense of rhythm, and learn to play a variety of fun and challenging percussion instruments. Open to grades 3 -8.
Drum Circle will meet on Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:15 in the Music Room/Gym beginning 10/21/21 and ending at Christmas Break (8 sessions). The class is limited to 20 students. Do you have a child that loves to create things? Mrs. Brownley is offering a card-making and crafts class for grades 3-8. Students will make cards, a mini scrapbook, and paper crafts. This group will meet on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 in Mrs. Brownley’s room beginning 10/21/21 and runs for 6 sessions (skipping Thanksgiving week), ending on 12/2/21. Space is limited to the first 12 students to register and pay. If you can not submit a response on the form then the class is already full. Fees can be paid via LunchTime.

Mrs. Harsch and the Reading Community Arts Center are offering an after school program during which students will make creations with clay. Students will learn the basics of working with clay and creating form- including pinch pot, coil, and slab building method. They will experience glazing their own ceramic piece, and the term will conclude in an art showing for family, as well as pieces to take home.
Clay Classes will meet on Tuesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 in the Art Room beginning 11/16/2021 and runs for 10 sessions (not meeting during Thanksgiving week or Christmas Break) ending on 2/8/22. Clay Class Registration
Power of the Pen is a state-wide, extra-curricular, creative writing activity that Bethany School offers 6th, 7th, and 8th graders,and is organized by Sharon Simon (6th grade teacher) and Julie Aubrey (7th/8th grade teacher). This club allows students to expand their love and skill of narrative writing and develop their own unique creative voice. It is designed to benefit those who want to enhance their writing skills.
Power of the Pen is organized into a Bethany Team (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) and a Competition Team (7th and 8th graders). The Competition Team will compete in the district competition on a Saturday in January or February. Qualifiers will advance to the regional and state competitions.
Power of the Pen will be meeting on Thursdays from 3 – 4 P.M beginning October 21st in Mrs. Simon’s room. Cost is $50 per student plus $17 for a Power of the Pen Polo for students who do not have one. The shirt may be worn as a uniform shirt and is worn for competition days. Ever want to build a robot? Love Legos? We have the club for you! Mr. Imwalle is offering a Robotics Club for sixth Graders. We will use Lego Mindstorm’s EV3 robot building kits along with chromebooks to learn about robots. Students will follow a plan for robot assembling, programming and debugging. They will learn about sensors, motors and gears and will create programs that control the robot. It is active learning that incorporates problem solving and, of course, lots of fun!
Robotics will meet on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 in Bethlehem Multipurpose room beginning on 10/27/21 and run for 7 sessions (not meeting during Thanksgiving week), ending on 12/15/21. Dismissal of Students will occur immediately afterward in front of Bethlehem for car pick up, otherwise they will go to extended day.
A session for 5th Graders will be offered in January-March and one for 4th graders will be held in April-May. Registrations for those sessions will occur at a later time.

Love the spotlight? Mrs. Harsch and the Reading Community Arts Center are offering an after school program on Theatre Basics. This includes skills in improvisation, scene writing, basic dance and music coordination. The session would conclude with a small recital for the student’s families to observe the things they’ve learned during the period.
Theatre Basics will take place on Thursdays from 3:00 – 5:00 in the BethEva (the old Dining Hall located next to the office) beginning on 11/18/21 and runs for 10 sessions (not meeting during Thanksgiving week or Christmas break), ending on 2/10/22. The class is limited to the first 15 students that register and pay the fee. If you are unable to submit a response via the form, then the class is already full.
