About Bethany School

Bethany School has been a beacon of hope and a sanctuary for children and families for over 125 years. The school was founded in 1898 by the Sisters of the Transfiguration, a religious order of Episcopal women, and continues to serve the original mission of their ministry to this day. Open Teaching & Staff Positions

Elementary (K-2) Homeroom Teacher

Bethany School seeks an Elementary (K-2) Homeroom Teacher beginning August 2024. Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic people who possess content area and pedagogical knowledge in English language arts, math, science, and social studies, as well as in ways these areas intersect with other content areas such as art and music. Successful candidates will also demonstrate understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in the elementary grade levels (K-2) and will have had positive experiences working with students in these grade levels. Prior experience implementing a social emotional learning curriculum is a preferred qualification.

Qualified Homeroom Teacher candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:

Middle School (Grades 6-8) Math and Science Teacher

Bethany School seeks a Middle School (Grades 6-8) Math and Science Teacher beginning August 2024.

Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic people who possess content area and pedagogical knowledge in math and science, specifically with courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Physical Science, as well as in ways these areas intersect with other content areas. Successful candidates will also demonstrate understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in the middle grades (6-8) and will have had positive experiences working with students within in these grade levels. Prior experience implementing a social emotional learning/advisory curriculum is a preferred qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with students in an understandable, effective way about daily lessons
  • Establishing clear behavioral expectations and learning objectives to maximize student learning
  • Utilizing flexible, effective teaching tools and methods to help students learn science and mathematics
  • Creating and assigning learning projects, activities, assessments and homework for students, in order to promote content mastery and to extend learning

Qualified candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:

Director of Advancement

The Position

Bethany School seeks a Director of Advancement to start July 1, 2024. This full-time, salaried, benefits eligible, administrative position reports to the Head of School, serves on the leadership team of the school, and works with the Board of Trustees and its Development Committee, providing updates on fundraising and investments of the school. The Director of Development will provide leadership, vision, and direction for the school’s fundraising for the Annual Fund, scholarships, and strategic initiatives, and other external affairs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the top of funnel marketing strategy and working with vendors to increase web traffic, inquiries, and registrations for Admissions events.
  • Oversee the development of all marketing materials, including print, digital, social media, and review sites.
  • Develop an annual fundraising strategy to generate revenue for Bethany School. This plan should include, but is not limited to:
  • Donor Acquisition,
  • Annual Fund,
  • Financial Aid Fund,
  • Planned Giving,
  • Foundations and grants, and
  • Research and prospecting for major donors.
  • Create a strategy to increase engagement and involvement of alumni/ae, current families, and the wider community.
  • Nurture relationships with all donors, sponsors, local partners, Episcopal communities, Community of the Transfiguration, and ministries of the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
  • Responsible for the development of all digital and printed donor and alumni communications, including an annual development report.
  • Serve as staff support for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Coordinate logistics for development and other special community events.
  • Update and maintain the donor database.
  • Oversee the processing of all gift income for the purpose of providing receipts and the maintaining of giving records of donors to the school.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees and Development Committee in identifying new partnerships and revenue sources.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the Development Committee proving monthly updates, guiding efforts, and attending monthly meetings.
  • Forming and leading a professional and volunteer staff to carry out the activities of this office.
  • Supporting the school and its leadership.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Graduate Degree preferred
  • 5+ years work experience in a school setting or equivalent experience; specifically in independent schools (preferred)
  • Cultural competence and enthusiasm for working with diverse and dynamic families with regard to race, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, family configuration, etc.
  • Exceptional written and verbal interpersonal communication skills; warm and welcoming, energetic and enthusiastic demeanor
  • Strong technology skills; experience with Google Suite, Microsoft 365, Rediker, Blackbaud, etc. preferred
  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills: active listening, anticipating and assessing needs, connecting community members to community resources

Extended Day Program Staff

Bethany School seeks part-time Extended Day Program Staff members. Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic people who possess an interest in children and their spiritual, mental, physical, and social emotional growth and development through engaging and organized before-school, after-school, and summer programming. Successful candidates will also demonstrate understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in the elementary school grade levels (K-8) and will have had positive experiences working with students within in these grade levels. The program hours run from 6:45 AM – 8:00 AM and/or 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday- Friday. Prior experience in youth development, recreational services, or extended day programs is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting each child in a warm and friendly manner
  • Supervising children at work and play and being responsible for their health, welfare, and safety.
  • Maintaining daily attendance records
  • Documenting student activities and projects
  • Implementing instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful experiences
  • Planning, preparing, and implementing daily activities (indoor/outdoor) related to children’s interests and learning needs
  • Interacting positively with children and encouraging their involvement in activities.
  • Promoting a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing to allow children to grow and explore
  • Collaborating with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere and to help students resolve issues that may arise while in the program
  • Ensuring confidentiality of privileged information
  • Adhering to all school policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
  • Establishing standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive atmosphere, reinforcing a responsive approach similar to the experience of the school day.
  • Modeling professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents/family members, peers, and the community.
  • Working cooperatively with students, parents/family members, and the broader Bethany School community.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Programs.

Education, Certifications, and Work-Related Experience:

  • High school diploma or higher
  • Must have a valid Monitor or Aide License and BCI Background Check
  • Must be willing and able to be CPR and First Aid certified.

Knowledge-base Requirements:

  • Training and/or experience in early childhood education or childcare
